E Mí Tuó Fó - Welcome to Shaolin Academy Germany

Shaolin and Chan

The 1500 year-old fight arts and meditation techniques from the Shaolin Temple which is valid as a cradle of the Chinese Wushu decrease to religious origins. They are based on the Chan Buddhism which derives again from the Indian form of the Buddhism.

The Chan Buddhism is also known in the west under the name Zen Buddhism. He was founded by the monk Bodhidharma who came in the year 527 to China, sat down in the Shaolin temple, gathered there his pupils around himself and from here spread the new apprenticeship in the country. The Chan Buddhism stands for commiseration and goodwill. He is known as an extremely tolerant religion. The tolerant atmosphere of the Chan in the temple was, beside the need to defend itself before attacks an important condition for the development of the fight arts and for the origin of the monasticisim of the Shaolin.

The spiritual selftraining of the monks by long seats in contemplation was valid as especially important. To relax from sitting still with crossed legs, the body exercises which were applied before and during the long meditations were developed. In this manner they will be transmitted‚ 18 ways of the Shaolin' fictitious from which the Shaolin fight arts arose down to the present day from one master generation to the next.
